new Counseling training program

High quality counseling services at a reduced cost

Beginning in August 2017, we partnered with Mercer University to provide a practicum site for their Masters Program. Providing the highest quality of research-based counseling services is the core mission of Counseling ATL, LLC, and now we have even more affordable options thanks to our graduate student counseling training program.

Our intern offers counseling services at a very reduced rate of $75 per session, so that we may reach further into our community and provide services to those who may not otherwise afford it or have access to care or resources. Insurance is not accepted, and these services cannot be counted towards insurance deductibles.

Jessica Settle has been selected as the 2017-2018 Graduate Counseling Intern for Counseling ATL's new Counseling Training Program.

Background

I am a native midwesterner from Indiana, but I have lived much of my life abroad, where my love for cultural diversity blossomed and became a significant part of my worldview. I moved back to the United States to attend college at Taylor University where I fell in love with psychology, which fueled my desire to help people who are hurting.

Although I enjoy traveling and connecting with other cultures, the Atlanta area feels like home to me. Since college, I have also tried understand my own personal struggles in navigating loss, life challenges, relationship difficulties, and the path to greater mental and physical wellness.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

I am currently completing a Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Mercer University, and I completed my undergraduate education in Psychology at Taylor University. I previously worked as a case manager for individuals and families who were suffering from severe mental illnesses such as Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorders, and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder.  I also worked in a transitional group home for young adult women who were rescued from abusive homes.

Supervision

I receive my primary clinical supervision from Chris Belous, Ph.D., and Carla P. Smith, PhD., LCSW, LMFT, both faculty of Mercer University. Stephanie Cook, LCSW, owner of Counseling ATL, LLC, also provides me with mentoring and supervision on site.

who I work with

I enjoy providing specialized counseling services to clients of all ages and backgrounds, including adults, teens, families, and couples. I have completed specialized training in the Gottman Method Couples Therapy through the Gottman Institute (level 1).

I am passionate about helping people, especially those who are suffering, courageously living with past hurts and trauma, struggling to negotiate a significant life challenge or transition, experiencing relationship difficulties, or seeking overall personal growth or greater mental wellness.

Approach

I strive to be an empathic, caring listener and I believe in being both authentic and collaborative with my clients. Each counseling relationship is unique, so I tailor our work to your individual needs and situation.  My approach to counseling is informed by a number of insight-orientated theories of counseling, as well as my understanding of attachment, interpersonal, internalized oppression, and contemporary modern and postmodern perspectives.

I am available Mondays, Fridays, and Saturdays, with convenient evening and weekend hours.
