Individual Counseling and Therapy in Atlanta
When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.

Individual Counseling

Counseling, also known as "talk therapy", is a process that helps you learn more constructive ways to deal with the problems or issues in your life. Your counselor can be a source of support when you are going through a difficult period or you are under increased stress, such as changing careers or experiencing a relationship crisis.

While counseling is usually time-limited when you want to focus on specific goals, it can also be ongoing and longer-term when you want to focus on your personal growth and understanding, or heal from past issues. Through one-on-one sessions with your counselor, you can work towards understanding yourself, seeing your strengths, and overcoming obstacles that stand in your way. Ultimately, counseling helps you make decisions that bring you closer to the person you want to be, the relationships you wish to have, and the life you want to live.

While our counselors serve adults, couples and families, we specialize in helping people improve their relationship skills. Relationships are very important, arguably the most meaningful and defining part of a person's life. We also enjoy helping people navigate personal and phase-of-life issues, which often includes identity, family, friendship, purpose, values, and career choices.

Some of our therapists specialize in working with pre-teens and teens, ages 11 - 19. Adolescents have very distinct needs as they are going through dramatic physical, emotional, and social changes. We strive to provide a safe, confidential space for young clients to express themselves and work through challenges. We believe that family participation is a critical part of helping a teen, so we recommend at least a session of family involvement as part of the initial interview.

For individuals, we specialize in the following clinical treatment areas:

  • Improving Relationship Skills

  • Managing Emotions (particularly intense, overwhelming or difficult feelings such as worry, sadness, fear, shame, anger, and destructive urges)

  • Overcoming Anxiety & Depression

  • Coping with Grief & Loss

Ensuring that we provide individualized, evidenced-based, effective counseling to all of my clients is very important to us. All our therapists are intensively trained in mindfulness-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapies, and we are also intensive training in Gottman Couples Therapy. Any of our counselors can work with you in-person or online; Bridge Beatty is also now offering “Walk and Talk” therapy to individuals.
