Walk & Talk Therapy in Atlanta

GET OUTSIDE!

Who says therapy has to be sitting inside, on a couch?

If you are like most people, you feel better when you get outdoors and move. Most of us have desk jobs, and we sit far too much.

If sitting one more hour in an office for therapy probably doesn’t seem appealing—try “walk and talk” therapy with one of our trained psychotherapists!

Instead of traditional therapy, try a new approach!

You may find it easier to talk and reflect on your concerns while walking; it’s definitely more enjoyable than sitting in the office!

Walk & Talk sessions are just like office sessions, except that you and your counselor walk outside in the park. You get the chance to enjoy the outdoors and the benefits of physical movement. Substantial research supports the benefits of physical movement, not just for your physical health but also for your emotional and mental health. Sometimes, movement helps you get “unstuck” when you’re talking about something difficult.

Q: WHERE DO WALK AND TALK THERAPY SESSIONS HAPPEN?

A: Our two offices are both located very close to beautiful settings, including Buckhead and Poncey Highlands. You will meet at the office, where you can use the restroom if needed, and then we will leave for a walk.

Q: WHAT ABOUT BAD WEATHER?

A: We will discuss a back-up plan before scheduling our first session. The back-up plan can include using the office or having an online or phone session. If you prefer to walk outside, we are not bothered by light rain, so dress appropriately, but it will always be your choice!

Q: IS THIS A CARDIO WORKOUT?

A: No! This is a leisurely walk and you can set the pace. Our counselors are NOT physical trainers and these sessions are psychotherapy— NOT an exercise plan. While we walk we stay focused on talking, but also reap the benefits of leisurely physical movement and being outside!

Q: ANYTHING ELSE I SHOULD KNOW?

A: These sessions are the same as typical office sessions as far as length, scheduling, and cost. The biggest difference is confidentiality. Since we are walking in public, your counselor is unable to control what others can hear or who you see. Generally this is not a problem, as it is not obvious that your counselor is your psychotherapist. If this is a concern for you, we can discuss how to handle possible scenarios. If you ever feel uncomfortable with walking for any reason, you will implement your already agreed upon back-up plan!

We believe that therapy is an important decision and investment of time and money; you want to make sure you are making the right choice. Having a "good fit" between a client and therapist is critical for a successful outcome. This is why we offer a free 30 minute initial phone or video consultation if you would like to meet any of us before deciding whether or not you would like to work with us. Here are some tips for choosing the right therapist.

Also, if you cannot afford our services, are not able to see a counselor in-network with your insurance company, or need low fee counseling services, please consider contacting one of the training facilities, community counseling centers or educational institutions in Georgia we’ve compiled on this list. Although we are not able to see every couple at a reduced cost, your ability to afford treatment should never be a barrier to getting help, and thankfully there are many privately and publicly funded agencies that can help!
